He was employed as a yard conductor. As his train was passing Herrs station this morning, he accidentally fell from the first car and the entire train of 30 cars passed over him. His body was literally ground to pieces, not enough being left together to identify. Portions were scattered along the track for almost a quarter of a mile. The head was severed from the trunk. The remains were collected and taken to Ebbert's undertaking rooms. The accident was not seen by anyone on the train and nothing was known of it until the remains were discovered on the track. ANDERSON was one of the most highly respected conductors on the road, and was always efficient in the discharge of his duties. He has been on the road since he was quite a young man and has many friends among the employees. He was married and resided at 81 White Oak alley, Allegheny. from The Pittsburg Press dated Wednesday, October 26, 1892 (page 4): The funeral of Conductor Charles ANDERSON, aged 37 years, who was killed on the West Penn road, will take place at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon from his residence, on Whiteoak alley, Allegheny. (under the article title, Gathered to Rest) from The Pittsburg Press dated Wednesday, October 26, 1892 (page 6): A verdict of accidental death was rendered in the case of Charles ANDERSON, who was run over by his own train near Chestnut street, Allegheny, yesterday. (under the article title, Work of the Coroner) from the Allegheny City death records: Charles ANDERSON, married, age 35, railroad man, died October 25, 1892; crushed on railroad; born in Cambria County PA; lived on White Oak Alley; buried in Union Dale Cemetery on October 27, 1892.
