Battaglia, 49, pediatrician and president of the medical staff at McKeesport Hospital, died yesterday at 3:30 p.m. He was stricken ill at his home, 1201 Summit St., White Oak, and was taken to the hospital, where he died three hours later. Dr. Battaglia, who practiced pediatrics in the city for the past 22 years, was a member of the Academy of Medicine and the St. Mary's German Roman Catholic Church. He was born Nov. 8, 1907, in Pittsburgh, a son of Anthony and Ninfa Gurgiola Battaglia. After receiving his degree at St. Louis University in 1932, he served a year's internship at McKeesport Hospital. From 1933 to 1935, he was pediatric resident intern at St. Louis University Hospital. Dr. Battaglia did post-graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents of Pittsburgh, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Frances Reeder Battaglia; two sons, A. Mark and Charles R., and a daughter, F. Catherine, all at home; and five sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sgarlata of McKeesport, Mrs. Theresa Albo of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Robert Haller of Wilkinsburg, Miss Adeline Battaglia of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Kasimir J. Piekarski of Baltimore, Md. Friends are being received at the Volk-Jaycox Funeral Home. The Rev. William C. Fromme will sing solemn high mass of requiem Monday in St. Mary's German Church and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. McKeesport Daily News, April 5, 1957
