Funeral services at the residence of his daughter, Mrs G G GRAHAM, 1531 Fremont street, Allegheny, on Friday morning, Nov 1, at 8 pm. U V L 26 and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend. Interment on Saturday at Callery Junction. from The Pittsburgh Gazette dated Friday, November 1, 1901 (page 2): John BEERS, a contractor of Allegheny, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs G G GRAHAM, 1531 Fremont street, Allegheny, after a week's illness of pneumonia, in his 60th year. Mr BEERS was born in Callery Junction, Butler county, May 24, 1841, his father, James BEERS, being a pioneer resident of that section. At the age of 18 years, he enlisted in Company D, Eleventh Pennsylvania Reserves, and served three years. He was captured and confined in Libby prison, after which he was transferred to Andersonville, from whence he escaped and reached his regiment in an exchange of prisoners. At the expiration of his enlistment he returned to Butler county, and was married to Mary HAMILTON in 1867. He moved to Allegheny and became a building contractor, retiring five years ago. He is survived by a widow and three children, Mrs G G GRAHAM, Mrs Clinton McCANDLESS of Mars, Pa., and Mrs C BURSON of Allegheny. He was a member of Encampment No. 6, U V L, and of the Prisoners of War. from the Allegheny City Death Records: John BEERS, aged 61 years, married, building contractor, died October 31, 1901, of pneumonia; son of James and Jane BEERS; born in Pittsburgh; lived at 1531 Fremont Street; burial in Union Church Cemetery in Callery Junction PA, on November 2, 1901. Census records note that his parents were from Ireland. Children are Mary (Mrs Charles BURSON), Jennie (Mrs G G GRAHAM), and Annie (Mrs John C McCANDLESS).
