She was 76 years old and had been confined to her bed for for several months. She had been married the third time and was the mother of John GLENN, the well-known detective of Allegheny and of Hugh QUIGG, the painter, of Rebecca street. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Sunday, January 5 1890 (page 5): BEST - On Friday morning, Jan 3 1890 at 3 o'clock, Rachel, wife of James BEST, in her 78th year. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services at her late residence, corner of Samson and Federal streets, Second ward, Allegheny, on Monday morning at 10 o'clock, Jan 6 1890. Interment private. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Monday, January 6 1890 (page ): The funeral of Mrs BEST, mother of Officer John GLENN, of Allegheny, took place from her late residence, at the corner of Federal and Sampson streets, at 10 o'clock this morning. A large representation of the police department were present at the services. Mrs BEST was in her 77th year and her husband, who survives her, is 82 years of age. NOTES: >From census, she is noted as being born in Ireland. There may also have been a daughter, Jane.
