That one is a woman. Out at Braddock possibly hundreds of people know her, and perhaps some friends are wondering why she does not come home. All day yesterday, her body lay in the morgue, and no one called to see it, and there were no inquiries concerning her or any missing woman. (. . .) A young woman whose name is said to be Mrs PRICE, was killed by a Pennsylvania railroad train east of Bessemer station about noon yesterday in attempting to cross the track. She was about 20 years old and dressed in good clothes, as if she had been returning from church. She had a new celluloid purse, with 16 cents in it. Her body is at the morgue unidentified. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Tuesday, March 10, 1896 (page 4): The Woman Identified The unknown woman killed at Bessemer Sunday was identified yesterday as Emma BLACK, who lived in the rear of 27 Lombard street. She was on her way to visit friends when she was killed. It is said she was to have been married next week. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Emma J BLACK, age 22 years, single, died March 8, 1896, instantly killed on railroad; daughter of M A and S A BLACK, he of PA, she of OH; born in Clinton PA; lived at 27 Lombard Street; burial in Clinton PA on March 11, 1896. A review of the 1880 and 1900 census suggests that she may be the daughter of Michael and Sydney BLACK.
