While jumping from his train, which was moving quite rapidly, he tripped and fell, with his leg under the wheels. He was removed to the West Penn hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the leg just below the knee. The remains were brought to his mother's home, on Biddle avenue, last night. He was in his 2-th year, and was well-known and had many friends in the vicinity. The deceased was a member of Col E J A---n, Camp No. 66, Sons of Veterans. The funeral will take place from his late residence tomorrow at 2 o'clock pm and the remains will be interred in Homewood cemetery. (under an article titled, Work of the Coroner) from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Thomas BOLES, age 19 years, single, brakeman, died May 1, 1890, at West Penn Hospital from shock due to injuries received on the PRR; his parents are Isaac and Elizabeth BOLES; he was born in Wilkinsburg; buried in Homewood Cemetery on May 3, 1890 Census listings suggest that Thomas' parents are Isaac and Hannah J BOAL. There is a listing for a Hannah J BOAL as owner of a plot at Homewood Cemetery (Section 9, Lot 530).
