January 23, 1924 Boiler Explodes, Kills 3 Erie Men Associated Press Pittsburgh, Jan. 23.—The boiler of an Erie engine hauling the morning express from Pittsburgh to Cleveland over the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie railroad exploded at Aliquippa, Pa., 23 miles west of here, this morning, while the train was running 40 miles an hour. Engineer George Blark, Fireman I. L. Kuechler and J. R. Meade, road foreman of engines, were killed.
