All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ Frostburg, Allegany Co.,MD , USA The Mining Journal January 12, 1906 Mrs. Elisabeth BORLAND BROWNE, wife of William BROWNE, residing near Frostburg, died Wednesday, January 31, 1906, aged 73 years, 2 months, and 4 days, after an illness of over a month of heart disease. The daughter of Hugh BORLAND, shoe manufacturer of Edinburg, Scotland, she was born at Irven Ayrshire and lived there until January 8, 1855, when she was married. During the following the couple sailed for this country and located finally in this place in April 1856. Here she has since resided, filling the tender offices of wife and mother with Christian devotion. Her husbnd and six children survive, the latter as follows: Hugh L., superintendent of the McIntosh & Hemphill Iron and Steel Works, Pittsburgh, PA; John W., B. and O. boiler-maker, Glennwood, PA.; William A. late of Muskegaw, Michigan; Misses Christine at home, Sallie W., milliner, and Elisabeth J., teacher in Beall High School. Three sisters and four brothers, living in Melbourne, Australia, are also bereaved by her death. Rev. J. W. R. Sumwalt, of the M. E. Church, her pastor, conducted the funeral services at the family residence Saturday afternoon, and Messrs. Frederick STevens, William McLuckie, jr., James Williamson, William Kirby, J. H. Hitchins and George Kear, pallbearers, bore the remains to the grave, in the McLuckie cemetery, near town. Kind friends remembered the deceased lady in offerings of floral beauty and fragrance.
