Shortly before the accident a freight train with several stock cars attached, had pulled up to the tipple and was taking water. An engine and caboose pulled in behind it. As they were standing there a produce train, running at a high rate of speed, came from the west and crashed into the rear of the caboose of the second train, which plowed its way through into the stock train. Fire started almost immediately. Much of the stock got loose and went running over the hill side of the surrounding country; while a large number were burned. Damage to stock will run into thousands of dollars. Traffic on passenger lines was tied up several hours, while the wreckage which blocked the tracks was cleared. The dead--Fireman M. F. BURKE, aged 27, of Carnegie, and an unidentified man, burned beyond recognition. He had been riding in the caboose of the stock train and was burned to death when the wreckage caught fire. His body was taken to the Humphries morgue. E. S. YINGLING and J. N. HILL, both of Pittsburgh received injuries and are said to be in a serious condition. The injured were rushed to Pittsburgh, but one of the firemen died on the way.
