She had been in the hospital nearly two years and was loved by all connected with the institution. Mrs BURTON was a French woman, having come from Lorraine one-half a century ago. She had a family of four sons and one daughter. Two of the sons were killed in the late war. from The Pittsburg Dispatch dated Monday, November 4 1889 (page 5): An old lady, who attained to more than the Biblical allowance of man's tenure on life, and reached the reverential age of a centenarian - she had exceeded 100 years by 6 months - passed away yesterday in the person of Magdelena BURTON. The old lady had been an inmate of St Francis Hospital, on Forty-fourth street, for the past year and a half, or since her son, Mr Michael BURTON, formerly of Carson street, with whom she resided, left the city to pursue his occupation of glassblower at Jeannette. Mrs BURTON was a Frenchwoman, and claimed Lorraine as the place of her nativity. Her family included one daughter and four sons, two of whom died in France. She lost two sons in the late war, one of them being killed at Gettysburg. BURTON - On Sunday morning, November 3 1889, Magdelena, mother of Michael BURTON, formerly of the Southside, now of Jeanette, Pa., aged 100 years 6 months. Funeral Tuesday morning, November 5. Services at St Michael's Church, Southside, at 9:30 o'clock. NOTES: >From city directory, she was the widow of Nicholas. Sons said to have died in the war may be Nicholas and Florence.
