All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ from The Pittsburg Press dated Sunday, November 14, 1897 (page 7): A BRAKEMAN KILLED Daniel CLARK, aged 37 years, of Freeport, a brakeman on the West Penn railroad, was instantly killed on Herr's Island, Allegheny, at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, by being struck by the eastbound mail train on the West Penn road. He got off his train, which was westbound, in front of the Pittsburg & Western roundhouse on Herr's Island, and started to cross the track, when the mail train struck him, crushing in the left side of his head and body and breaking his left arm and leg. His body was thrown about 25 feet. CLARK's remains were taken to Isaac Willison & Sons undertaking rooms on Cedar avenue, Allegheny, and the coroner notified. CLARK leaves a wife and several small children. from the Allegheny City Death Records: Daniel CLARK, aged 38 years, widower, brakeman, died November 13, 1897, killed on the WPRR; was born in Armstrong County PA; buried in Freeport PA on November 14, 1897.
