John COWAN, a brakeman on the West Penn railroad, whose home is at
Freeport, was run over by an engine at Herr's Island and killed.
(under an article titled, Echoes of the Night)

John COWAN, age 32 years, single, brakeman, died July 1, 1897, killed
on the WPRR; son of Gilmore and Rachael COWAN; buried in Freeport PA
cemetery on or about July 3, 1897.
