He attempted to cross the track, slipped and fell, the wheels passing over both legs. He was taken to the West Penn hospital. (from an article titled, Echoes of the Night) from The Pittsburg Press dated Saturday, February 5, 1898 (page 7): DIED AT THE WEST PENN Thomas DANIELS, aged 49 years, died at the West Penn hospital last night from injuries sustained by being struck by an engine on Liberty and Eleventh streets last Monday. He attempted to cross the tracks and fell, the engine cutting him badly.
