The coroner's jury returned a verdict of death from heart disease. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Friday, January 19, 1883 (page 5): DAVY - Charles DAVY, aged 45 years. Funeral Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence, Spring alley, between 17th and 20th streets. Baltimore papers please copy. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Charles DAVY, aged 45 years, married, railroader, died January 11, 1883, instantly killed from injuries received by coupling cars on Pennsylvania Railroad in yards 10th Ward; born in England; lived on Spring Alley; burial in Allegheny Cemetery on January 20, 1883. >From 1880 census, wife is the former Eliza TUFTS with young son Charles. Various census records note that he was born in Maryland. Father possibly John DAVY of Maryland. The Allegheny Cemetery site notes the burial in Section 32, Grave 5433. Did not find any notations in the Commercial Gazette to reconcile difference between the reports. It is possible that I incorrectly transcribed the date but can not explain the discrepancy in cause of death.
