DUFFY, aged 79, a cousin of the late Sir Charles Gavan DUFFY, died yesterday at the home of his daughter Mrs. James KELLY on Mill Street following a brief illness. Mr. DUFFY was an authority on ancient and modern historys (sic) and in the earlier days was widely known because of his contributions to Magazines on Historical subjects. He came to this country at the age of twenty-six. For several years he made his home, with a daughter, Mrs. James CAMPBELL of North Side. Mr. DUFFY was a son of Patrick Gavan DUFFY and Mary MCANDREWS DUFFY. He received his education from tutors and in private schools. Later he was appointed assistant professor in English in Black Rock College, Ireland. He was married in Ireland to Mary DIAMOND, who died eight years ago. Mr. DUFFY came to Pittsburgh in the interest of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He established lodges of the organization in the largest cities in the United States. He leaves six children, Mrs. CAMPBELL of Pittsburgh, Mrs. KELLY of this place, Mrs. A. T. ANDREWS of Pittsburgh, Mrs. James LAUGHLIN of McDonald and Patrick and Thomas DUFFY of Pittsburgh, twenty grand-children and six great-grandchildren.
