These two were among the victims of that accident. ** from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Monday, October 11, 1880 (page 1): Samuel ELLIOTT was a man about forty years of age. He was one of the oldest conductors - in point of experience - on the road. He had just come in on the Chicago Express, when he was enlisted to help on the train on which he met his death. He leaves a widow and one daughter about fourteen years of age. He resided at Brushton station. He was a consistent member of the Homewood avenue M E church, and was a gentleman who in his business and in social circles was highly esteemed. (...) Edward BUTLER was a baggage master and an express messenger in the employ of the P R R, and went out on the fated train Saturday night to oblige a friend, he having completed his own run. He was twenty-nine years of age and a favorite with his brother employees and the public. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Tuesday, October 12, 1880 (page 4): The funeral of Mr Edward BUTLER, a nephew of Depot Master BUTLER, will also take place this morning from his late residence, No. 122 Sheffield street, Allegheny. Mr BUTLER was a baggage master on the P R R and had endeared himself to all who knew him. (...) ELLIOTT - Samuel W ELLIOTT, October 10, 1880, in the 48th year of his age. Funeral from his late residence at Brushton Station P R R today at 11:30 am, remains to be taken for interment to Greensburg by 1 pm train. Friends of the family are respectfully requested to attend. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Edward BUTLER, age 26 years, married, brakeman, died October 10, 1880; born in Brooklyn, NY; lived in Sterritt Township; burial in Homewood Cemetery on October 12, 1880. Samuel ELLIOTT, age 48 years, married, conductor, died October 10, 1880; born in Greensburg, Westmoreland County; lived at Brushton Station; burial in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, on October 12, 1880. According to the 1880 Census, the name of Edward BUTLER's wife is Naomi.
