About 9:30 o'clock, as an old gentleman named EVANS was crossing the Pittsburgh, McKeesport & Youghlogheny track between South Twelfth and Thirteenth streets, he was struck by an engine and instantly killed. (under an article titled, Two Instant Deaths) from The Pittsburgh Press dated Friday, October 11, 1889 (page 4): Louis EVANS was struck by a train on the P, McK & Y road, running at a rate of 20 miles an hour. He died a short time after. Funeral on Saturday afternoon, Oct 12th, at 2 o'clock, from the Welsh Presbyterian church, corner Second avenue and Cherry alley. Friends of the family are invited to attend. (under DEATHS) from The Pittsburgh Press dated Saturday, October 12, 1889 (page 5): Louis EVANS, of Thirtieth street, South Side, died suddenly Thursday morning. He was in his 73d year. Funeral took place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Welsh Presbyterian church, Second avenue and Cherry alley. (under Work of the Grim Reaper) from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Louis EVANS, aged 73 years, married, watchman, died October 10 1889, was crushed on the McK & Y Railroad; born in Wales; lived in the 28th Ward; buried in Union Dale Cemetery on October 12, 1889.
