He was born Ireland and came to the United States with his parents when a child. He resided in Pittsburgh until the outbreak of the Civil War when he enlisted in Company G, Fourth Pennsylvania Cavalry. At the time of his enlistment he was aged 17. While fighting at Gordonville, Va., he was wounded and taken prisoner and sent to Libby prison. His parents in Pittsburgh were notified that he had been killed in action and he remained officially dead for more than a year. At the close of the war he returned to Pittsburgh and became engaged in the wholesale drug business. He later went to New York. He leaves a brother, Alexander B. Fulton of Elizabeth. N. J., and four sisters: Mrs. William Muirhead. Mrs. Ada Wessel, Mrs. Lydia Moeller and Miss Emma Fulton.
