In attempting to cross the tracks at Marion avenue crossing, at 7:45 this morning, John GALLERY, of No. 50 Poplar street, was struck by the Enon passenger express, going west, and almost instantly killed. He was on his way to work at the Pittsburg & Western railway shops, on Kilbuck street, and it is believed that in his haste he attempted to gain time by passing under the safety gates that had just been lowered. He was thrown a considerable distance and his death followed very quickly. His right side was crushed, as was his skull, and his right leg was cut off above the knee. No. 2 patrol wagon was sent for and the remains were taken to Hermann's morgue, on Second street. He was 50 years of age and leaves a wife and family, who were promptly notified of the sad accident.
