His body was sent to Peyton's undertaking rooms, on McClure avenue. GRIGGEL was a resident of Hartford, Conn., and was beating his way to the Pacific coast on freight trains. >From papers found on his body it is evident that GRIGGEL was a member of the Turners and a lodge of I O O F at Hartford. A passport also found that he had recently returned from Germany. GRIGGEL's head was crushed and part of his right foot cut off. The remains will be held until the officers of the Hartford lodge can be notified. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Wednesday, August 18, 1897 (page 4): Ernest GRIGGEL, the machine agent, killed by a train at Woods run, will be buried here at the expense of Beethoven lodge, I O O F, of Hartford, Conn. (under an article titled, Echoes of the Night) from the Allegheny City Death Records: Ernest GREGGER, about 35 years of age, died August 16, 1897, instantly killed on the P & FW & C Railroad on McClure Avenue; burial in Highwood Cemetery on August 20, 1897.
