GROVES was attempting to make a coupling on some cars that were being drilled along a side track. In stepping between the cars his foot caught on the rail and he was thrown to the ground with his right leg lying across the rail. Before he could ------- himself the cars passed over his leg severing it from his body. In addition to this he sustained internal injuries and was badly cut and --------. His companions hastened to the spot as soon as possible, but he was unconscious when they reached him. He was at once put on a car and brought to this city and taken to the West Penn hospital, where his wounds were dressed. He died, however, about 7 o'clock this morning from the effects of the loss of blood and the internal injuries. GROVES was one of the best known employees in the service of the Panhandle on this division. He had been with the company for more than twenty years and had been in the yards at Sheradan for about thirteen years. His home was at Sheradan. He leaves a wife, two daughters and one son. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Marshall GROVES, age 36 years, married, conductor, died April 12, 1899, at the West Penn Hospital from internal injuries due to railroad; son of Jesse and Mary GROVES; born in Pittsburgh; lived in Sheridan; burial in Hollywood Cemetery on April 14, 1899. Census listings suggest that his wife was Lulu BERRY with children Orpha, Lulu, and Forest.
