Heart disease was the direct cause of death, although he had been in poor health for a number of years. Mr. Hacke was aged 72 years. He was the son of the late Rev. Dr. Nicholas P. and Susanna Hacke. The Rev. Dr. Hacke was, for 58 years, pastor of the First Reformed Church, Greensburg. He died in 1878 at the age of 78 years. The son, Paul H., came to Pittsburg at the early age of 12 years. and entered the employ of his uncle, William Hugus, dry goods merchant. He developed rapidly, was especially bright, and at the age of 16 the firm sent him to New York to buy goods. At 19 he went to Paris in the interest of the establishment. Very soon afterward he became a member of the firm of Hugus & Hacke, their place of business, at the corner of Fifth avenue and Market street, being one of the business landmarks of Pittsburg for more than half a century. For many years before retiring from active business, Mr. Hacke was the senior member of the firm. He was a public spirited citizen, always interested in the welfare of Pittsburg, and ever ready to aid in its development. He was one of the oldest members of the Duquesne Club and also a member of the Country Club, the Matinee Club, the Road Side Club of Cleveland, and a member of Duquesne Post No. 259. G. A. R. For several years he and his only surviving sister have made their home on North Highland avenue and only in May of this year they moved into their new house on Highland avenue, adjoining Highland Park. He had a beautiful stock farm near Greensburg. Mr. Hacke was noted as a millionaire, most of his wealth being in downtown real estate. The funeral services will be held at the residence at 8 p. m. tomorrow. Tuesday morning the body of Mr. Hacke will be taken to Greensburg where the interment will be private.
