from The Pittsburgh Press dated Tuesday, January 25, 1898 (page 9):
 
James B HAINES, head of the wholesale drygoods house of James B Haines
& Sons, Liberty avenue and Tenth street, died suddenly at his
residence, 59 Lincoln avenue, Allegheny, aged 69 years. For 40 years
he had been in the wholesale drygoods trade in Pittsburg. He began
his business career as a member of the firm Wilson, Payne & Co., and
gave liberally to charity in an unpretentious manner. He was
president of the board of trustees of North presbyterian church,
Allegheny, and directed the construction of that congregation's
building at Lincoln and Grant avenues. He is survived by his son,
James B HAINES Jr. His wife died five years ago. The funeral
services are announced for 2:30 pm tomorrow.

James B HAINES, aged 69 years, widower, merchant, died January 24,
1898, dropsy; born in PA; lived at 59 Lincoln Avenue; burial in Union
Dale Cemetery on January 26, 1898.
