At the time of the accident he was trying to jump from one car to another and fell upon the track. He was taken to the West Penn Hospital. Mr HARKER was one of the oldest brakeman in the employ of the company. He has a wife and family living on Thirty-third street. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Saturday, June 21, 1884 (page 6): James HARKER died at the West Penn hospital of injuries received on June 12 by being run over by a freight train in the Pennsylvania railroad yard at the head of Twelfth street. One of his legs was cut off below and the other at the knee. The Coroner's jury found that his death resulted from an accident. (under an article titled, Died >From Poison) from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: James HARKER, age 40 years, married, brakeman, died June 20, 1884, in the West Penn Hospital, run over in the yard of the PRR; born in Johnstown PA; lived in Pittsburgh; burial in Johnstown PA cemetery on June 21, 1884. Census and city directories suggest that the wife's name is Jennie with children Maggie, John, Mollie and George. Burial may be in Sandyvale Cemetery in Johnstown PA.
