from The Pittsburgh Press dated Tuesday, May 5, 1896 (page 11):
 
Mrs Mary HASTINGS died yesterday morning. She was the mother of John
HASTINGS. The funeral was held today from the residence of her
son-in-law, D E MARTIN, Adams street, Allegheny.
 
from the Allegheny City Death Records:
 
Mary HASTINGS, aged 70 years, widow, died May 4, 1896, influenza
pneumonia; born in PA; lived at 7 Adams Street; burial in Highwood
Cemetery on May 5, 1896.
 
NOTES: Possible that age is incorrect - David E MARTIN's
mother-in-law, Mary HASTINGS, is noted in census listings as born in
the mid-1810s.
