Mr HOLMES was born in Delhi, Delaware Co, N. Y., December 1 1819. In 1840 he came to Allegheny and settled in the Fourth ward. He was a millwright but for the past 10 years had lived a retired life. He was a man of studious habits. He had a special love for botany, in which study he attained considerable distinction. Mr HOLMES had been married 51 years. His widow and seven children survive. Funeral services will be held at his late residence at 8 o'clock this evening, and the interment will be private tomorrow. from the Allegheny City Death Records: Albert HOLMES Sr, aged 80 years, married, died of old age on January 8, 1899*; born in Delaware County, NY; lived at 6 South Diamond Street; burial in Highwood Cemetery on January 11, 1899.
