L. D. HULL Account of Death of Former Resident of Latrobe The following account of the death of Mrs. L. D. Hull who lived in Latrobe for several years, her husband conducting a livery stable here, is taken from yesterdays Saltsburg Press. It will be interesting to the many friends whom the deceased had in this place:---- On Monday morning, Feb 29, 1904, about 10 o'clock, the parting spirit of Mrs. Eliza McClain Portser Hull took its flight at her home in Springdale. She was age 38 years and is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm J. Portser, of Saltsburg, her husband and two children, William and Rose age 13 and 7 years respectfully. Besides these she is survived by three brothers---Harry and Charles of Philadelphia; William of Pittsburg; also one sister, Mrs. Robert J. Irvin, of Saltsburg. Funeral services were held at he late home on Tuesday evening conducted by Rev. Bolinger, pastor of the United Presbyterian church , of Springdale, who was a firm friend of Mrs Hull and who had ministered to her through all her serious illness. Mrs. Hull was a member of the Presbyterian church but in the absence of that denomination in Springdale Rev. Bolinger was ever ready to assist. Mrs. Hull was married about 18 years ago to L. D. Hull. For over a year past she has been an intense sufferer with an incurable disease, sarcoma. The best medial authorities in Pittsburg and elsewhere were consulted but the ravages of the terrible disease could not be stayed in its death-dealing, cancerous course. Even a few weeks ago, when it was learned that radium could be applied to the cure of such diseases, an effort was made to attempt restoration with the aid of that new and wonderful discovery, but owing to the experimental condition in which the article is yet handled, it could not be put to the test. LATROBE BULLETIN Friday, March 4, 1904 Thank you to Kathy of the Adams Memorial Library of Latrobe for her help. Additional Comments: Eliza's husband was Levi D Hull the son of George D and Rebecca (Scott) Hull. After her death he married Agnes M Patterson and had another child, a daughter Ruth.
