Lebanon, on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000. He was born and raised in Canonsburg as the son of the late John A. Johnston Sr., M.D. and Helen Greer Johnston. Preceded in death by his brothers David Oaks Johnston and Wesley Greer Johnston; first wife, of 39 years Lila Jane (Hughes) Johnston and 2nd wife of 15 years, Mina George (McCrory) Johnston. Survived by three children, John A Johnston III and partner Susan Golomb of Pittsburgh, Nancy Trice of St. Clair and Janet J. Folaitar and Donald, of Mt Lebanon; grandchildren, Katherine Johnston Finlayson and Joseph, Emilie D. Trice and. Natalie M. Folaitar; five stepchildren John George III, Ann G. Malthouse, &: Mina Lynne G. Simms, Lissa G. Paxton and Laurie George Malka. Step grand children, Brownyn, Elizabeth, Ian "Mac", Kelly, Jim, Zabrina, John, Thayer, Aleeza, Talie and Jack. Graduating from University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1940, he served the community for 49 years as a physician. He was a Resident at Allegheny General Hospital and McGee Womens Hospital. Between 1942 and 1946, he served as Captain with the U. S. Army’s 5th General Hospital Orthopedic Service in Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland. Early; in his career, he practiced general medicine with his father and youngest brother, David, in Canonsburg . Later he became a highly regarded and respected General Surgeon at Canonsburg General and St. Clair Memorial Hospitals. Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Rd., Mt. Lebanon. Funeral service held on Saturday. Interment will be private.
