He had started to cross the tracks but slipped and fell just in front of the car. It was impossible for the motorman to stop in time as the rails were very slippery. The morgue ambulance was summoned and his body removed thither. (under the article heading, Three Lives Snuffed Out) from City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Samuel G KEEFER, age 48 years, married, coal miner, instantly killed by a traction car on February 22, 1902. Son of Daniel and Jane KEEFER, born in Armstrong County, PA, living on Howard (?street). Interment in Church Hill Cemetery on February 25, 1902. from various records: In 1900, living in Pittsburgh, Sam G KEEFER, married for 17 years, wife Sarah, with children Pearl born 1884, Earl Elmer born 1887, Wilbert born 1895, and Martin born 1898. Another son, James, was born 1901. Sarah died December 12, 1905 at daughter Pearl's (Mrs Pearl HARRIS) residence. In 1910 census, James and Martin are at Protestant Orphanage of Pittsburgh; Wilbert was boarding in Greentree; could not locate Pearl and Earl Elmer.
