It will be with feelings of regret that the friends of Engineer Joseph Kennedy will learn of the death of that gentleman. Mr. Kennedy was a passenger engineer on the Pittsburgh division of the Pennsylvania railroad. He took fast line west on Friday night and on arriving at Pittsburgh ran his engine into the round house and started for his home in Wilkinsburg. No local passenger trains were running, the hour being late, and while waiting for a freight engine to come along he did not see a car which was coming toward him on the track on which he was standing. The car struck him, crushing both legs. Picked up and taken to the West Penn hospital his left leg was amputated above the ankle. The right one was also badly crushed. While he rallied slightly on Saturday, he began sinking early yesterday morning and died at twenty minutes past 7 o'clock. The deceased was very popular, both as an engineer and as a man. He was about 35 years of age and since 1875, or from the time he was 21, he was a passenger engineer. He was married, his wife being a daughter of Agent Kiel, of Wilkinsburg. His wife and two children are left to mourn his tragic death. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Voluntary Relief department and also of the Royal Arcanum.
