All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ from The Pittsburgh Daily Gazette dated Wednesday, December 3, 1873 (page 4): STRUCK BY A LOCOMOTIVE Last evening about half past seven o'clock a man named Robert KERWIN was run over by engine No. --, Allegheny Valley Railroad, on Railroad street between Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth, and instantly killed. The remains of KERWIN were taken to the Twelfth ward station home, and Coroner W McCallin notified. Deceased was a watchman in the employ of the Keystone Bridge Company. He was forty-five years of age, and leaves a wife and family residing on Twenty-seventh street. An inquest will be held this morning. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Robert KERWIN, aged 45 years, married, watchman, died December 2, 1873, killed on the Pennsylvania Railroad in the Twelfth Ward; born in Ireland; lived on Twenty-seventh Street; burial in St Mary's Cemetery on December 4, 1873. Census records and city directories indicate that wife is Ellen with children Michael and Mary.
