Charles KNEPPER, founder and for many years editor and publisher of the Carnegie Item, died at her home, 519 Wabash avenue, Carnegie, at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, August 31. She had resided for 48 years in Carnegie. She was born on the old CROUCH farm in Pigeon Creek district of Washington County, and was married to Mr. KNEPPER in 1866, at Mansfield, O. She took up her residences at Carnegie in 1872, the year the Item was founded. Mr. and Mrs. KNEPPER first met in Canonsburg, while Mr. KNEPPER was attending Jefferson college, and while his prospective bride was visiting her grandparents, Samuel and Maria (MCNARY) MARTAIN, and attending a private school there. Mrs. KNEPPER was an estimable Christian woman. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carnegie. She leaves a son and three daughters: John B., publisher of the Carnegie Signal-Item; Esther M., Lillian and Rose B. KNEPPER, all of Carnegie. four grandsons and three granddaughters also survive. A sister, Miss Ella B. CROUCH, resides at Mansfield, O. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Dr. J. M. DUFF, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Carnegie. Interment was in Chartiers cemetery.
