The accident was a peculiar one. KRELL was employed at Walkers Mill stone quarries. This morning he was walking on the panhandle tracks on his way to work and was overtaken by a freight train. He stepped off the track and continued on his way walking beside the train. When about one-half of the train had passed him one of the car doors had swung out and struck him on the head. He was thrown under the wheels of the car but the brake beam prevented his leg being run over. The accident was witnessed by a brakeman, who stopped the train as soon as possible. KRELL was picked up in an unconscious condition and removed to the office of Dr GANGLOFF in the West End. The doctor says the injuries are of a fatal character and sent him to the Homeopathic hospital. At noon today KRELL was still unconscious and no hopes are entertained for his recovery. He is single and said to be a sober, hardworking young man. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Wednesday, August 5, 1896 (page 6): Ray KRELL, the young man who was struck by a panhandle train at Carnegie yesterday morning, died at the Homeopathic Hospital at 6 o'clock this morning, without having regained consciousness.
