Linhart died at his home in this village Sunday at about 1 o'clock p.m. after a long illness. Death had been look for, for some days before the end came. Many of his relatives from a distance had visited him during the last week of his illness. Funeral services were held at the U. B. Church Wednesday conducted by Rev. D. E. Birtch of Middleville, assisted by Rev. C. D. Jarvis and accompanied by the G. A. R. and I. O. O. F. Lodge. Francis J. Linhart was born near Bradicksfield Alleghenney County, Pennsylvania, December 19, 1847, and died at Sunfield April 3rd, 1910, aged 62 years, 3 months and 15 days. His father, Soloman Linhart, owned and operated coal mines, boats, etc. About the year 1857, the family moved to near Parkersbury, W. Virginia, where they owned a farm, and lived nearly all through the Civil War. Many an exciting time was experienced, as this was rebel territory. Horses, cattle and provisions had to be hid away from the ravages committed. In the year of 1864 the family moved to Hancock county, Ohio, where the deceased enlisted in Co. G., 189th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, on the 9th day of February, 1865, serving about nine months in the Civil War. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1865. After this he came home to Ohio and on the 8th day of August 1872, was united in matrimony to Nancy J. Burns. In the month of October following, Mr and Mrs Linhart came to Sunfield Township, where they have resided almost continuously since. For several years their occupation was farming, having owned several different farms at or near Sunfield. In the year 1890, Mr Linhart commenced working for the then D. L. & N. R. R. Co., which came through Sunfield, and is now known as the P. M. system, and labored continuously in this vocation, as pumper at Sunfield, Grand Ledge, Clarksville and Lansing. About the 10th of November 1909 his ailment, from which he had been a long and patient suffer, caused him to discontinue his labors. No more touching scene could have been demonstrated than his kind and fatherly talks and advise that he gave to all his family and friends present, apparently when he had been unconscious and beyond this mood. About a week before the end he rallied and asked for prayer, which was quickly given and he said a great change had came over him and that he felt consecrated and given to his Master. The deceased had been a member of the local lodge I. O. O. F. for thirty-six years, and also a member of the S. W. Grinnell Post G. A. R. of Sunfield about twenty six years, having previously belonged at Sebewa, Michigan. A loving and affectionate husband and father and a most kind neighbor, he will be greatly missed by all. Deceased leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, mother, five children, two grandchildren, six brothers, two sisters and a host of friends. One son, Charlie E. who passed to the world beyond, November 23, 1881. The children: Andrew B., Soloman O., Rockwell E, and Cora of Sunfield and Lulu M. of Lake Odessa.
