All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Tuesday, April 1, 1884 (page 2): William LINDSAY, a brakeman on the Pittsburgh, McKeesport & Youghlogheny railroad, was run over by a train last night at 8 o'clock near South Twenty-third street, and had both legs taken off below the knees. At the time the accident occurred he was turning a switch and caught his foot in a frog. He was taken to the Lake Erie depot and died in a half-hour afterwards. His wife, but five months married, lives in Wellsville, O., and his father, Thomas LINDSEY, resides in Burgettstown, Washington county. An inquest will be held this morning and his remains forwarded to Wellsville. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Wednesday, April 2, 1884 (page 8): The Coroner's jury in the case of Wm E LINDSAY, killed on the Pittsburgh, McKeesport & Youghlogheny railroad, recommended yesterday that the frogs on the road be changed. (under an article titled, Breveties) from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: William LINDSAY, age 23 years, married, railroader, died March 31, 1884, injuries received on P,McK & Y Railroad; born in Wellsville, Ohio; lived at 13 Carson Street; burial in Wellsville, Ohio cemetery.
