Johnny, as he was always called, was born Oct. 1st, 1902, at Sturgeon, Pa., but for a number of years has lived at Oakdale. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen LONGSTRETH of Union avenue and was home at the time of his death, which was due to an attack of appendicitis, only being ill from Monday evening until Thursday night. His death came as a great shock to the family and friends, who did not realize he was in an alarming condition. During the reign of the Etna Chemical he was employed in the Laboratory department, being there at time of the explosion, but escaped without injury. He later was employed at Steubenville along some line of work. He was of a quiet, reserved nature, yet his kindness and friendliness won for him many warm friends, among whom he will be sadly missed. His absence in the home will be keenly felt because of his affectionate manner and thoughtfulness of all. He was a great reader and enjoyed talking with older people on topics of the day. He loved little children and they loved him. He was a member of the M. E. church of Noblestown. The many beautiful floral tributes and the many who called at his late home to pay their last tribute of respect was proof of the many friends he had won. He is survived by his father and mother and brother Stephen and sisters, Agusta (sic) and Edith at home, brothers Henry and Love of Oakdale, brother, Pete and sister, Mrs. Jas. MCEWEN of Moon Run and brother James of Oil City. Funeral services were held Sabbath afternoon at his late home on Union avenue at 2:30 conducted by his pastor, Rev. MOOSE. Interment was in Robinson Run cemetery. He was carried to his resting place by friends, Thomas Edwards, Harold and Kenneth FULMER, Pete and Frank HENNEMUTH and Earl STEWART.
