All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/obits/lynch-frank.txt Taken from McDonald Pa Outlook 23 Dec 1916 Early Sunday morning when the automobile driven by Clarence TAYLOR collided with the passenger train known as the Bummer at the McDonald street crossing Frank LYNCH lost his life and Albert CAIRNS and Clarence TAYLOR had a miraculous escape. The boys had been to Pittsburgh and on their return had stopped at the William GILES home leaving there to take CAIRNS to his home in South Side. According to the story of TAYLOR and CAIRNS they stopped when they neared the railroad crossing to see if the way was clear; seeing the watchman in his "coop" and hearing nothing, young TAYLOR started his machine at a lively clip. The Bummer, which is due at 12:40 was about an hour late was approaching the station by TAYLOR did not see it until too late to avoid a collision; the automobile striking between the tender of the engine and the baggage car. Two of the occupants were thrown out, and the machine was dragged about 50 feet; the other occupant was found under the automobile. TAYLOR and CAIRNS were taken to the Mercy hospital, LYNCH died soon after being put on the train and his body was taken to the Morgue. Mr. LYNCH made his home with his brother Grover LYNCH of Arabella street. His body was taken to the home of his parents in West Virginia. Neither CAIRNS nor TAYLOR are seriously injured. For some time the borough officials have been endeavoring to have this crossing made more safe but up to the present nothing has been accomplished. Several have lost their lives here, but the Railroad Company have taken no steps to carry out the wished of council. Now that another life has been lost it might be ___ for the Railroad company to hunt up their Blue Prints, and again ___ our people that they intend to ... 2 lines missing.
