NEWS ITEMS.

  Capt. Wm. Marshall, an old pilot between Pittsburg and Wheeling, 
committed suicide at the National Hotel, Pittsburg, on Friday last, by 
taking laudanum.  He left a letter addressed to the proprietor of the 
hotel and another to the coroner, saying in the latter that he could do 
no more good for himself or anybody else.
