Struck by flying debris. (. . .) David MATTHEWS, of 52 Thirty-third street, was a heater and had been employed at the Republic iron works for many years. He was married and leaves a wife and family of four grown-up children. He was a well-known and highly respected citizen of the Twenty-fourth ward. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: David MATHEWS, aged about 51 years, married, heater, died September 1, 1899, instantly killed by boiler explosion; son of William and Anna MATHEWS, both of Wales; born in Wales; lived at 50 33rd Street; burial in South Side Cemetery on September 3, 1899. NOTES: From census listings, wife is Elizabeth with children Jane, Elizabeth, Alice, Edith, Grace and David.
