NOTES: Robert McAdams was born on October 15, 1847 to Robert and Mary Ann McAdams. Robert was married to Sarah Wright, daughter of William Wright and Nancy Nelson. Robert's brother, William was married to Sarah's sister Annie. On August 1, 1861 Robert, his father, Robert Sr., and his brother James all enlisted in "D" Co. PA 63rd Infantry. Robert McAdams, Jr. Residence not listed; Enlisted on 8/1/61 as a Private. On 8/1/61 he mustered into "D" Co. Cristler lists his occupation as physician on his December 1894 Marriage License to Edith McAdams. NOTES: Christopher Lyman McAdams was born in Pennsylvania in January 1877 to William McAdams and Annie Wright. His occupation was listed as plumber. Christopher had two brothers: Edward and Edgar. Edward Calvin McAdams, M. D. was married to Lydia McClain who died in February 25, 1917. Edward married Lydia McClain in 1914. Lydia died in 1917, and Edward married Ida Mae Kidd in 1921. Christopher's brother Edgar L. McAdams married Lucy Hunt and had a daughter, Norma. Christopher and Carrie had three children: Edward Lyman McAdams, Evelyn McAdams, and William McAdams. Christopher was buried in Union Dale Cemetery Section N with Carrie and with his parents, William McAdams and Annie Wright. Also in Section N are Christopher's paternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Ann McAdams, and his maternal grandmother Nancy Nelson Wright. He worked as a draftsman at American Bridge and Pittsburgh Plate Glass. He married Louise Catherine Wertz on September 12, 1906 at St. Augustine's Church, Pittsburgh. Thomas and Louise's six children were all living at the time of his obituary, and are listed in the obituary in birth order. Thomas died at Shadyside Hospital and was buried in Section H-281, St. Mary's Cemetery, Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His brother James immigrated in 1822. Brother Thomas and wife Ann Curran followed in 1825. Robert immigrated with his parents, brothers John, then age 17 and William Joseph 11 years 6 months and sister Ann, 18 in 1828. The family departed from Belfast and arrived in Philadelphia on the Barque Elizabeth Ann [or maybe Elizabeth Allen] on May 19, 1828. Robert, his first wife, Rebecca Keating, his second wife Margaret Simpson, his father, William and his brother John are all buried in Section 16 of Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville. James is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Section H with his wife Catherine Sullivan, sons Charles Vincent and Thomas Joseph and daughter Lydia. ======================================================================== Margaret Porter McAdams Mrs. William McAdams was something of a local celebrity as she and her husband were among the first five residents of Braddock. She and her husband received a write-up in the local Braddock newspaper, detailing the celebration of their sixtieth anniversary, a few months before Mrs. McAdams' death. This death notice from the Gazette features a picture of Mrs. McAdams: Mrs. William McAdams, Sr. Mrs. Margaret Porter McAdams, aged 80, wife of William McAdams, Sr. died yesterday [August 17, 1916] at her home, 813 Washington avenue, Braddock, after a short illness. She was born at Old Green Springs Station, in Mifflin township, and was the daughter of James Porter, a pioneer coal operator of the lower Monongahela valley. She was married to William McAdams, a native of Somerset, Pa., in 1856, and the couple celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last February. She was the oldest surviving charter member of the First Christian or Disciples Church of Braddock and was one of the organizers of the Women's Christian Church Board of Missions of the church. She leaves her husband; three sons, William, and Mark B. McAdams, Jr. [sic] of Braddock, and Dorsey McAdams of North Braddock; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Louis of Knoxville, Mrs. Laura O'Donovan of North Braddock, and Mrs. Blanche O'Donnell of Munhall; 33 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. I have seen these two spellings used interchangeably in other documents: NOTES: Lois was one of five children born to William C. McAdams Jr. (1862-1941) and Mary Tomlinson McAdams. The others were Virginia, Lillian, Leona B. and William III. Lois' grandparents were William C. McAdams (1834-1922) and Margaret Porter McAdams (1837-1916). Thomas Joseph McAdams named his son, Charles Vincent McAdams Sr. (1916-1983) in honor of his half-brother Charles (1873-1927). Her husband Robert was the son of William and Isabella McAdams. Robert and Margaret were married after the death of Robert's first wife, Rebecca Keating in 1882. They were married on January 9, 1873 at St. Mary's Catholic Church 45th Street. Mary and James had one son, Charles V. McAdams, born November 3, 1873.
