PITTSBURGH, January 8. - Last evening Mrs. Sarah McCandless, a well- known resident of Pittsburgh, died at the residence of her daughter-in- law, Mrs. Cimiotti, in Bloomfield, Sixth ward. Two months ago the old lady, whose age was 96 years, was in the employment of remarkable health, and could see to read without the aid of spectacles. About that time she went to visit Mrs. Cimiotti, and shortly afterward, met with an accident by which she was precipitated to the bottom of a flight of stairs. She received several wounds and suffered internal injuries, which terminated fatally last night. Mrs. McCandless was born in Butler county, and during most of her lifetime resided in Pittsburgh. Her husband served in the war of 1812, and to the time of death she drew a pension. She has one son, Mr. Alex. McCandless, residing on Pride street, this city, and a daughter married to Col. Sirwell, of Kittanning. Her grandson is Mr. George McCandless, detective, connected with the Pittsburgh Mayor's office. Morning Tribune (Altoona), Friday, January 9, 1880
