She received other severe injuries. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Tuesday, July 12, 1900 (page 2): Mrs Mary McCONNELL, 35 years old, living in the rear of 15- West Carson street, while carrying a lunch to her husband last night was struck by a shifting engine on the Pittsburg, Cincinnati, Chicago and St Louis railroad and her skull fractured. She was taken to the Mercy hospital. It is feared she cannot recover. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Tuesday, July 12, 1900 (page 2): Mrs Mary McCONNELL, of the rear of 155 West Carson street, Pittsburgh, died at the South Side hospital at 4 o'clock yesterday morning from the injuries she received by being struck by a shifting engine on the Panhandle railroad tracks, back of her residence at 9:30 pm Sunday. She was crossing a track to carry a lunch to her husband who works in a neighboring mill when the accident occurred. She was 40 years old and is survived by her husband and a boy two years old. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Mary McCONNELL, aged 30 years, married, housewife, died July 11, 1900, in Mercy Hospital; shock due to being crushed on railroad; daughter of Patrick and Margaret FOX, both of Ireland; born in Pittsburgh; lived on West Carson Street; burial in St Mary's Cemetery on July 12, 1900. >From 1900 census records, Mary was 29 years of age. Her husband is Frank, to whom she had been married 3 years, and her son is William.
