Although she had been ailing for some time, her condition did not take on a serious aspect until two or three days ago when she contracted a cold, but even as late as half an hour before her death this morning she was able to be about the house. Mrs. McGettigan was one of the city's most widely known and highly respected citizens. A devout Christian woman all her life, she was an active member of St. Peter's R. C. Church, the Sanctuary society of the church and Branch No. 310, L. C. B.A. She was born in Ireland, but had resided in McKeesport for the past 40 years. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, James P. and William J. McGettigan, and three daughters, Miss Elizabeth McGettigan and Mrs. Asa Atwater, all of this city, and Mrs. M. C. Stevens, of Wheeling, W.Va. Also by 15 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Peter's church, with a solemn high mass of requiem. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. McKeesport Daily News, January 18, 1917, page 8
