His body was badly mutilated and death was instantaneous. The body was taken to Herman's morgue, and has not been identified. from The Pittsburg Press dated Thursday, January 27, 1898 (page 7): IDENTIFIED BY DAUGHTER The Remains of Joseph (sic) MOLES, Killed in Allegheny, Recognized The body of the man killed at the Sandusky street crossing of the Fort Wayne railroad on Tuesday afternoon, was identified yesterday as that of Joshua MOLES, who lived with his son-in-law, Alexander WILSON, at 273 East street, Allegheny. MOLES was a mulatto and 86 (?) years of age. During the past few years, his sight and hearing had become impaired. His relatives think that he was unaware of the approach of the engine and in his hurry to reach home with some medicine he stepped under the safety gates and met with his terrible fate. His body was removed last night from Herrmann's Allegheny morgue to his late home. The identification was made by Mrs Harvey BRANSON of 18 Herron avenue, Allegheny. When she saw the mangled remains of her father, she fell in a faint and it was some time before she was revived. from the Allegheny City Death Records: Joshua MOLES, aged 82 years, married, retired, died on January 25, 1898, crushed and instantly killed on the P & FW & C railroad; born in VA; lived at 273 East street; buried at Union Dale Cemetery on January 28, 1898.
