All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ from The Pittsburgh Gazette dated Saturday, January 8, 1876 (page 4): Crushed to Death Henry C MOORE, a freight conductor on the Allegheny Valley railroad, was crushed to death near the Lucy furnace, Lawrenceville, about 10 am yesterday. He was making ready to couple some cars that were on a side track, when the shifting engine ran some empty cars on the switch, with such force as to drive the two together between which MOORE was standing, catching him between the bumpers. He extricated himself and walked to the middle of the main track, and fell. He was picked up and taken to the railroad shops, where he died in a few minutes. Coroner McCallin held an inquest in the afternoon, a verdict being returned of accidental death. Deceased was thirty years old, resided in the Seventeenth Ward, and leaves a wife and one child. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Harry C MOORE, age 32 years, married, conductor, died January 6, 1876, injuries from being crushed by cars on the AVRR in the 18th Ward; born in Philadelphia; burial in Allegheny Cemetery on January 10, 1876.
