He was born December 10, 1930, son of John and Katherine (Cernacek) Murcek of Duquesne, PA. Dr. Murcek was a graduate of Duquesne High School, University of Pittsburgh (BS, Chemistry) and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi and Alpha Omega Alpha academic and research honor societies. He served in the _U.S. Navy. Dr. Murcek was Board Certified as both a Pediatrician and as an Allergist / Immunologist, and maintained a solo practice in Greensburg, PA beginning in 1966. During his 52 years of active practice, he was a past President of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and served on many boards and committees of the Society. He was a staff member of numerous area hospitals, primarily Westmoreland Regional Hospital and Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. Of Dr. Murcek's many professional organization memberships, he was especially active in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology; the Pennsylvania Allergy and Asthma Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Jeannette, PA and the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple of New Castle, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Daniel, Sy, John, Milan, Dave and Walter, and two sisters, Mildred and Millicent. He is survived by his wife, Doris Mae (Weiss) Murcek of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter, Laura Suzanne Murcek, her husband, Joel Adamich and their daughter, Indie Adamich, all of Redondo Beach, CA; his two sons, Martin A. Murcek, Jr. of Murrysville, PA and David F. Murcek of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Olga Klevemann of Penn Township, PA and Kathryn Murcek of Murrysville, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dr. Murcek is at rest in Green Acres Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ.
