Railroad accidents have not been frequent of late but yesterday morning another took place only a short distance from this city, in which a young man named George P. Norris lost his life. He was employed as a fireman on engine No. 483. At the time of the accident the train, an extra freight, was going west. When it drew near Kittanning Point they slowed up and stopped at the plug to get water. Norris ran back over the tank to fix the supply pipe and was knocked off by the jar of the train when stopping. He fell directly across the rail in the rear of the tank. The first car, an empty one, passed over his body just above the hips, but did not mangle it much. The only other injury was a bruise on the shoulder. The poor fellow was picked up by his mates, several of whom saw him fall, but he lived but about half an hour. The body was brought to this city and taken in charge by Undertaker Tipton who sent it to his late home. Norris lived in East Liberty and had been married but a year. He was aged about 30 years.
