A resident of Carnegie for the past sixty-seven years, and the oldest hotel proprietor in this part of the County, George Picard, Sr., 85, husband of the late Elizabeth Hintz Picard, died Wednesday, February 1, 1939 at 1 a.m. in his home, 221 West Main street, following the effects of a stroke. Born in Alsace-Lorraine, Mr. Picard came here at the age of eighteen and resided continuously in his new home community since then. For many years he operated the well known Picard Hotel and since the repeal of Prohibition he again entered business with his son, George Jr., in the Picard Cafe. Additional Comments: George Picard was also a director of the Carnegie Standard Building & Loan Association. He was also a member of Branch 12, Knights of St. George and a former member of Carnegie Lodge No. 831. B.P.O.
