All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ from The Pittsburgh Press dated Wednesday, August 5, 1896 (page 2): FATALLY CRUSHED Mrs Charles PRYOR, who resided at Emsworth, was run down by an east bound freight train and received injuries which caused her death two hours later at the Allegheny general hospital. Mrs PRYOR left home for the purpose of taking the train due at Emsworth at 5:52 this morning for this city. Her husband is a gardener and has a stand in the Pittsburg market and she was bringing some products to the city. Two freights, both east bound, came along. Thinking one of them was the passenger train she stepped off the platform and was struck and thrown under the wheels. Both legs were crushed and she sustained other injuries. She was brought to the Allegheny general hospital and died in less than two hours. The accident was witnessed by Mrs WRIGHT, Mrs BOND and a Miss O'NEILL, who were at the station. Ticket agent KERR at Emsworth saw Mrs PRYOR's danger and succeeded in catching her arm but could not save her. Funeral services on Thursday evening at 8 pm at the residence of her aunt, Mrs Hannah JOHNSON, 1-0 Jackson st., Allegheny. Interment Friday at 9:20 am from the P & L E RR depot. from the Allegheny City Death Records: Mary Ann PRYOR, age 44 years, married, died August 5, 1896, from injuries received on the railroad; she was born in Moon Township, Allegheny County; lived in Emsworth; buried in a Shanna?fea? (?) PA cemetery on August 7, 1896.
