All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ from The Pittsburgh Press dated Wednesday, February 19, 1896 (page 1): CRUSHED BETWEEN CARS A small freight wreck occurred on the Pennsylvania railroad, near Radebaugh station, this morning, in which Monroe ROBERTSON, a brakeman, was so badly hurt that he can not recover. A heavy eastbound freight train parted and the two sections crashed together. ROBERTSON was standing upon the rear car in the first section when the crash occurred. The force threw him down between the cars and in the rebound he was terribly crushed. His injuries are mainly internal. At the West Penn hospital, where he was taken, they were pronounced fatal. His body was also badly bruised. ROBERTSON is 27 years old and lives somewhere in Fayette county. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: Monroe ROBERTSON, age 19 years, single, railroader, died on February 19, 1896, in West Penn Hospital from injuries received on the railroad; son of Edna ROBERTSON; born in Virginia; buried in Shawville PA. Could not locate in census to reconcile differences.
